Marketing & Volunteer Coordinator

Normal Working Hours: Part-time; 20 hours per week
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Position Status: Non-Exempt


  1. Maintain and update social media presence including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn with professionalism and relevance
  2. Market USOD via supporting materials including print (brochures, fliers, invitations, etc.) and maintain mailing lists for such material
  3. Market USOD via media outlets, including press releases and print advertising
  4. Update and maintain website including coordination of information with web developer, adding resources to site, and updating with current information as appropriate
  5. Develop and distribute weekly eblast to membership
  6. Maintain and update organization’s database software including data entry, donor thank-you letter generation, audits of file accuracy and problem solving
  7. Recruit, train and manage volunteers for USOD programs and events
  8. Develop and coordinate USOD and related merchandise such as t-shirts, magnets, etc.
  9. Professionally and appropriately represent USOD at events or other public relations opportunities
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary degree preferred within the scope of marketing and communications
  2. Experience with different forms of marketing, i.e. Social media, press releases, newsletters
  3. Experience with website content management systems
  4. Experience with desktop publishing software, especially InDesign and Photoshop
  5. Experience with donor databases preferred
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with peers, executive management and community partner agencies
  8. Effectiveness in problem-solving, multi-tasking and self-direction
  9. Willingness and ability to adapt to change in duties, work environment, leadership, strategies and organizational direction
  10. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and excellent driving record; insurable for driving purposes
  11. Possession of any relevant and required certification or credential

Development & Marketing SUMMER 2019 Intern


The Up Side of Downs is seeking a qualified intern to work within & contribute to our Development team for our major fundraising events. The position will begin in May, 10-12 hours per week but will increase during the weeks leading up to the Buddy Walk on August 24, 2019. Must be able to commit to these hours and attend the Buddy Walk. The internship spans a range of responsibilities including marketing, maintaining records, contributing to event projects, coordinating donations and cultivating relationships with USOD families, donors, sponsors and volunteers. College students with an emphasis in their studies in Marketing, Communications, Event Planning or Nonprofit Administration are encourage to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Major responsibility will be focused on assisting the Development Coordinator in logistics of event planning and coordination including: researching and sharing best practices for fundraising events and campaigns; drafting and posting social media messaging; communicating regularly via email and telephone with current and prospective donors, sponsors and volunteers; handling inquiries from USOD families and walk participants; and various event preparation assignments. Additional job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attend monthly committee planning meetings and provide support during the event
  • Update social media calendar and social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Assist Marketing Coordinator with public relations, including media contacts, press releases, PSAs and online event calendars
  • Help maintain and update donor, sponsor, USOD and volunteer databases
  • Assist with the creation and mailing of development and event materials
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as organizing inventory and supplies; updating current documents and files; completing special projects and all other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Detail-oriented, have the ability to multi-task, take direction, work independently, meet deadlines and adapt to fast-paced or immediate changes
  • Experience with event planning or fundraising a plus but not required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Google (Docs, Sheets). Graphic design experience helpful (Publisher, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with USOD issues and information
  • Have an understanding of USOD programs and possess an interest in our mission
