USOD is pleased to announce Mind•Body•Soul, a new program to support adults with Down syndrome in Northeast Ohio through life skills training and ongoing social opportunities. Programming will be held at USOD’s Independence location as well as other sites around Northeast Ohio. Life skills topics including Technology, Safety, Employment, Money Management, Health & Wellness and other critical issues for daily living will be presented in regularly scheduled classes. In addition to social programming already in place, USOD will host adult social events and quarterly outings around Northeast Ohio. Mind•Body•Soul will also include two adult mini-conferences per year, one in the spring and one in the fall.
Life expectancy for people with Down syndrome has increased dramatically in recent decades – from 25 in 1983 to 60 today. When the Up Side of Downs began in the early 1980’s as a parent-run organization, the emphasis was on support for families and their young children. As the life expectancy has increased, USOD realizes the great demand that exists for programming focused on adults with Down syndrome in the community.
